‘25,000 employers did not contribute to Human Resources Development Fund’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry has urged 25,000 employers to pay a levy to the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).

Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran said if they failed to do so, action would be taken against them.

He said only 50 per cent out of 50,000 companies registered under HRDF had contributed to the organisation.

“All employers must contribute and must learn how to share.

“I have ordered legal teams and lawyers to take action against them if they do not comply. We will ensure that the remaining 25,000 employers contribute.”

HRDF chief executive officer Datuk C.M. Vignaesvaran Jeyandran said the employers had until June 30 to settle their payments.

He said if they did not comply, they would be charged under the HRDF Act 2001, which carries a penalty of RM10,000 or a one-year imprisonment.

Kulasegaran said a new committee under the ministry would be set up to monitor complaints and enquiries from training providers and the public regarding the ministry, adding that this was to ensure that transparency in the ministry was taken seriously, and answers to complaints would be put up on HRDF’s website daily.

“I have spoken to the Human Resources chief secretary, and a new body will be set up to make sure all complaints will be looked into.”
