Najib to defend Pekan division chief’s post

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak will defend his Pekan division chief ’s post in the party polls.

“Umno members must be strong and continue to heal the party.

“This is because it has contributed a lot (to society) and is synonymous with achievements gained by the country.

“As for me, I will continue to lead Pekan Umno and would like to offer myself to defend the position of Pekan Umno division chief,” he wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.

Najib, 65, has been Pekan Umno division chief since 1982.

He called on Umno members to continue the party’s struggle to regain people’s trust.

“As the (former) Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman, I take responsibility for our loss in the 14th General Election.

“We must rise. The time to be sad is over. We must learn our lessons, mend weaknesses and strengthen Umno so that we can regain people’s trust.

He shared his routine, saying that he had more time to spend with his family, aside from receiving countless visits from friends and supporters.

He said he was opening an office to conduct his personal affairs and to ease those who wanted to meet him.

“I will continue to give my cooperation to the authorities regarding the investigation against me, which is actually political revenge.

“I have given my statements to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission twice.”

He has been the subject of investigations into alleged wrongdoings regarding a graft scandal at 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
