- Farah Azharie

Rugby (MR) chief, Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya has confirmed that former All Black, Brad Mika as the new national men’s rugby 15s team head coach.

“We decided last night (Wednesday) to offer the head coach position to Mika, so we’re going to make an offer to him but whether he will accept or not, it’s up to him,” said Shahrul.

Mika was not present at MR’s exco meeting, which started at 10pm and ended at 2.30am on Thursday, due to his birthday.

Aside from former coach Lee Nyuk Fah, Raimi Yusof has also quit his post as team manager, effective immediately.

“We are offering the position of team manager to Datuk Zainal Rafique who is the president of Kuala Lumpur Rugby Union (KLRU) and also the owner of Keris Conlay rugby team.

“I think (Keris Conlay) is one of the most successful clubs in the country and he is probably the best person to take over,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shahrul gave recognition to Nyuk Fah, Raimi and the coaching as well as management team who have been in service for the past four years.

“They have been there for four years and we recognise their contribution in bringing the team from Division Two to Premier League this year.

“They, themselves feel that after four years, they should give the opportunity to others to take the team to greater heights.”

Regarding former national player, Marc Le’s nine-page report, Shahrul said a lot was discussed, and moving forward, the high performance committee will try to strengthen their standard operating procedures and code of ethics.
