Norza steps down as C&T chairman

-

the national badminton team's poor showing at the Thomas and Uber Cup in Bangkok, last month, Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria has decided to step down as BAM Coaching and Training (C&T) committee chairman.

After chairing a C&T meeting yesterday, Norza, who is also BAM president, said he took full responsibility for the national contingent's failure in achieving their target, and has decided to step down, making way for Datuk Ng Chin Chai.

"As I have said in Bangkok, I take full responsibility for our failure in achieving our target to reach the semi-finals (Thomas Cup) and quarter-finals (Uber Cup).

"I have been C&T chairman for the past three years, and have others issues to focus on, especially in relation to the new set-up of the academy, and bringing in new sponsors for BAM.

"Therefore, I have decided to relinquish my position as C&T chairman.

"We have decided on a new chairman and that person is Datuk Ng Chin Chai," said Norza. Chin Chai previously chaired the committee from 2010-2013.

Norza said: “Chin Chai is the new chairman, but I will still be president. Among other things I told him, he should continue the robust way of looking at the C&T, by being more hands-on with the coaches and players.

"I wish him (Chin Chai) all the best. I know he is qualified, as he has experience running the C&T before.” Fabian Peter
