State PKR unaware of Ijok rep’s nomination
SHAH ALAM: Selangor PKR says it is in the dark over the supposed nomination of Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad as a candidate for the menteri besar’s position.
Its deputy chief, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said she was unaware of Dr Idris’ nomination.
Reports had stated that Idris’ name had been submitted to Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
“At Selangor PKR level, we have determined the names. But I am unaware of the latest development on Ijok (Dr Idris). What was reported is beyond my knowledge,” she said.
In the latest development on who would replace current Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who has been elevated to federal level as economic affairs minister, Dr Idris’ name had seemingly emerged as the frontrunner for the state’s No. 1 post
News portal The Malaysian Insight reported that Dr Idris’ candidacy was proposed by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in a letter to Sultan Sharafuddin.
The report said the proposal had received support from all Selangor Pakatan Harapan party leaders, namely state Parti Amanah Negara chairman Izham Hashim, state Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari and state DAP chairman Tony Pua.
Izham declined to comment on Dr Idris’ nomination.
“PKR submitted three names to Sultan Sharafuddin. It was submitted yesterday. We will support whatever decision made by PKR and the sultan.”
Izham said it was Selangor Amanah’s hope that the new menteri besar would ensure the state’s wellbeing.
“We hope the new menteri besar will continue with the development plans for Selangor and improve the teamwork among Pakatan Harapan leaders in the government.”
Other candidates to succeed Azmin included PKR’s Sungai Tua assemblyman Amirudin Shari and Seri Setia assemblyman and PKR vice-president Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin.
