TH to continue with Baiti programme
PERMAISURI: Tabung Haji (TH) will continue with its Baiti programme nationwide if there are requests from state governments to help the needy, including repairing their houses.
Its deputy chief executive officer, Datuk Badlisyah Abdul Ghani, said TH would cooperate with state governments as it had allocated RM50,000 to repair each house.
He said RM5.7 million had been allocated to build and repair 126 houses and eight mosques nationwide since the programme was introduced in 2012.
“This year alone, we handed 30 houses to the needy.
“The houses were built on government land or land owned by them with TH providing cash assistance.
“After we have received applications, we will look at whether we can afford to continue with the programme.
“This is tithe, which we give to the poor with the cooperation of district offices who identify those eligible,” he said at the state-level TH Baiti programme at Kampung Telaga Papan here.
Present were Setiu member of parliament Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir, Setiu District Officer Rosdi Awang and state TH director Datuk Mohyen Mosman.
At the event, TH handed over 11 houses to poor families in Setiu. A total of RM550,000 was allocated to built the houses with the help of the Setiu District Office and Terengganu Religious and Malay Custom Council (MAIDAM).
Plumber Zawawi Zakaria, 48, was grateful for being selected a recipient of the programme.
“Before this my wife, Sarina Khalid, 42, and our four children, aged between 3 and 13, lived in a relative’s house at Kampung Bari Besar here.
“Thank God, our dream came true and this Aidilfitri will be meaningful for the family.”
