New arrest warrant for Jamal
SHAH ALAM: The magistrate’s court yesterday issued another warrant of arrest against Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos when he failed to appear in court for mention of his beer smashing case.
Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin granted the warrant of arrest after deputy public prosecutor Amira Haziqah Zulkifli made an application during the proceedings.
Raja Noor Adilla fixed July 11 for mention.
On May 25, Jamal, while receiving treatment at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital here, was charged under Section 290 of the Penal Code for causing public nuisance after he smashed crates of beer with a sledgehammer.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at the entrance of Pos 1, Bangunan SUK Shah Alam, at 10.15am on Oct 5 last year.
Hours after he was charged, Jamal went missing when the Shah Alam court assistant registrar went to the hospital at 5.30pm to complete the bail process.
Earlier, Jamal’s counsel, Datuk Imran Tamrin, told the court that he had tried locating his client, but failed.
He said Jamal knew that the case was scheduled for mention yesterday.
“The accused is aware that the case will be mentioned today (yesterday), but we have not received any instructions from him.
“I was informed by the police that there are other warrants of arrest against him.
“The first involves the bail process that has yet to be completed at the Ampang Jaya court.
“There is also a new warrant of arrest as announced by Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat last Friday for escaping from police custody.”
