Jealous lover allegedly torches girlfriend in fit of rage

KLANG: A man allegedly burnt his girlfriend alive in a fit of jealousy at his home in Andalas here on Thursday.

The 24-year-old victim suffered 60 per cent burns on her body and was brought to Tunku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for treatment.

Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commission­er Shamsul Amar Ramli said police received a report from the victim’s mother, 52, who visited her daughter at the hospital, about 10am on Thursday.

“The victim said she had a fight with her 24-year-old boyfriend at his home.

“She was beaten with a rubber hose.

“The suspect proceeded to pour petrol on her body before setting her alight,” Shamsul said yesterday

He said the victim and the suspect, who works as a mechanic, were brought to the hospital for treatment.

“The suspect’s hands were wounded in the incident.

“He was detained to facilitate investigat­ions.”

He said initial investigat­ions revealed that the man acted in a fit of jealousy.

“There was a misunderst­anding between the couple, who have been in a relationsh­ip for a year.”

He said police would remand the suspect to facilitate investigat­ions under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
