Jealous lover allegedly torches girlfriend in fit of rage
KLANG: A man allegedly burnt his girlfriend alive in a fit of jealousy at his home in Andalas here on Thursday.
The 24-year-old victim suffered 60 per cent burns on her body and was brought to Tunku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for treatment.
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said police received a report from the victim’s mother, 52, who visited her daughter at the hospital, about 10am on Thursday.
“The victim said she had a fight with her 24-year-old boyfriend at his home.
“She was beaten with a rubber hose.
“The suspect proceeded to pour petrol on her body before setting her alight,” Shamsul said yesterday
He said the victim and the suspect, who works as a mechanic, were brought to the hospital for treatment.
“The suspect’s hands were wounded in the incident.
“He was detained to facilitate investigations.”
He said initial investigations revealed that the man acted in a fit of jealousy.
“There was a misunderstanding between the couple, who have been in a relationship for a year.”
He said police would remand the suspect to facilitate investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
