‘PROBE ON SHAHIDAN COMPLETED’
Investigation papers to be submitted to DPP’s office, say police
INVESTIGATIONS into allegations that Perlis Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim had insulted Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail have been completed, said Kangar district police chief Superintendent Wari Kiew.
“The investigation papers on allegations that Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim had insulted the Raja of Perlis will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office soon for action.
“This includes whether or not to proceed with prosecution.
“The case was investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services,” he said yesterday.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine and a year’s imprisonment.
The New Straits Times Press had, on May 25, reported that Kuala Perlis assemblyman Nor Azam Karap lodged a police report against Shahidan’s remarks questioning the Malay ruler over the appointment of the menteri besar.
Nor Azam had called for an immediate probe as “no one had ever challenged a decision made by the Raja of Perlis through the media”.
Shahidan’s statement questioning the credibility of the word murka (when a ruler expresses unhappiness over an issue) had caused an uproar, prompting several groups to lodge police reports.
