Teacher killed in car crash

KUANTAN: A teacher died while her husband and son were injured when their multi-purpose vehicle crashed into a road divider in Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman here on Saturday.

In the 5.30pm incident, Nurul Arifah Talha, 37, suffered serious injuries to her head and was pronounced dead at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

Nurul Arifah, who was from Sungai Soi, taught at SK Mat Kilau.

Pahang Traffic Investigat­ions and Enforcemen­t Department Superinten­dent Kamarulzam­an Jusoh said investigat­ions revealed that the victim’s husband, Mohd Junaidi Othman, 36, lost control of his Nissan Grand Livina.

The family was headed here from Kemaman, Terengganu, when the incident happened.

“Investigat­ions showed that the driver failed to control the vehicle and crashed into a steel road divider on the right side of the road.

“The victim, who was sitting with her son in the front passenger seat, was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead at 7.20pm (on Saturday),” Kamarul-zaman said in a statement yesterday.

He said the victim’s husband and son, Ahmad Dhaifullah Nazir Mohd Junaidi, 4, were in stable condition.

The victim’s daughter, Nur Damia Adriana, 9, who was in the rear passenger seat, escaped unhurt.

“The victim’s body was handed to her family after the post-mortem,” Kamarulzam­an said, adding that the case was being investigat­ed under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
