Myanmar man killed in fight with countryman

-

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A fight between two Myanmar factory workers during a drinking bout led to one of them killed.

The incident occurred at the factory’s workers hostel in Jalan Bukit Tambun, near here, between 8pm and 9pm on Sunday.

Police were alerted to the incident at 8.55pm.

Victim Sai Ko Ko, in his 20s, was stabbed twice on his left chest and slashed once on his left cheek.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said initial investigations revealed that the fight was due to a misunderstanding.

He said the suspect attacked the victim with a knife.

“The victim died at the scene while the suspect and a fellow countryman fled.”

He said the incident was captured by the factory’s closed-circuit television camera.

The knife used in the attack had yet to be found, he added.

Police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Nik Ros Azhan said police had detained six people — two factory directors, a supervisor, a clerk and two Nepalese factory operators — to assist in their investigations.

Police are looking for the suspect, identified as Maung, 23, and fellow countryman Naing Naing, who holds a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees card.
