ANNUAR GOING FOR NO 1 POST
He will challenge Hamidin in FAM presidency race
THE FA of Malaysia (FAM) elections on July 14 will be an interesting affair after all. Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin is not going to get the FAM president’s post unchallenged.
He will have to fight for it. Tan Sri Annuar Musa yesterday announced his challenge for the No 1 post in Malaysian football.
The former FAM deputy president made the announcement on his Facebook page — three days before the nomination deadline.
This means that Hamidin, the favourite for the president’s post, after receiving 18 nominations from FAM affiliates, will not get it hands down.
“Thank you Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, FAM acting president who delivered the president’s nomination form to my office,” said Annuar.
“I feel the FAM congress deserves a chance to choose among a number of alternatives in a free, open and sporting environment.
“Malaysian football has long been searching for a touch which can take the sport to a new level. In that view, I confirm that I have decided to accept this nomination for FAM president.”
The anticipated three-cornered fight among Hamidin, Annuar and Olympic Council of Malaysia deputy president Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi did not materialise when Azim declined a nomination.
Yusoff had earlier stated that only Hamidin had confirmed he would contest the post vacated by Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
I confirm that I have decided to accept this nomination for FAM president
