MAHB: KLIA Aeropolis project to proceed as planned

- DATUK BADLISHAM GHAZALI

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aeropolis is among the mega projects inked by the former administration that has been given the green light to go on as planned.

Project owner Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the development would proceed as commitments had been made with many parties.

“It will continue because we know what the market will bear, customers are waiting for all those things (the aeropolis),” said managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali after meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons, here, yesterday. “We will sign more agreements in the future.”

So far, the government has called off the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail and Mass Rapid Transit Line 3 projects.

The fate of the East Coast Rail Link is still unknown.

On the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ), Badlisham said the company involved had given a briefing to Transport Minister Anthony Loke last week.

He said DFTZ involved two private firms in Alibaba Group and MAHB.

“It does not really involve the government and only a part of it. Most of the equities and investments are from Alibaba and MAHB.

“The minister is getting updates on the aviation industry. He is aware of those things (DFTZ) and there is no objection, but he wants to study it and as far as we are concerned the deal is ongoing,” said Badlisham.

It will still continue because we know what the market will bear, customers are waiting for all those things (the aeropolis).
