‘Drive carefully, don’t overeat’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Seeing the lighter side of politicians is always welcomed by the public.

Such is the case with 92-yearold Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. In a Hari Raya video on YouTube yesterday, Dr Mahathir answered light questions before giving advice on healthy lifestyle and driving home for the festivities.

“Tomorrow (today) we will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. On this last day (of Ramadan), I still have a tonne of work to do. I have to work until evening. I can’t rest.

“To those of you on your way back to your hometowns, remember that your family is waiting for you, don’t disappoint them by getting involved in an accident.”

He reminded drivers not to rush just to arrive home a few minutes earlier because that might result in an accident.

On food intake, he told people not to overeat.

“Eat in moderation. Maybe a little more than normal, but don’t be greedy.”

Dr Mahathir said his favourite raya cookie was kuih makmur, but was quick to add “kurang gula” (less sugar). He said he liked blue baju Melayu and enjoyed the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad’s Raya songs.

On his most memorable Raya, Dr Mahathir recalled the one time when all of his family members gathered together.

“Everyone was there. Sometimes some cannot make it, so it is not so joyful. But this one year, all of us gathered and took a group photo.”

Dr Mahathir also invited everyone to his open house today.
