Anwar: I’ve rested long enough in prison

-

KUALA LUMPUR: “Papa has been resting long enough in prison. Now, it’s time to work.”

That was the message from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a short video for Hari Raya Aidilfitri that he and his family made and uploaded on his Facebook page.

He said this when his daughter, Nurul Nuha, asked whether he wanted to rest after being released from prison.

The 30-second video showed Anwar telling Nurul that they could not waste the support of the people by resting and feeling comfortable.

“People are waiting, people have given us the mandate. If we do not go ahead (with our plans), then their support is wasted.

“If we only think about our comfort, then it is no different from the previous regime. So, we have to work.

“The goal is to lessen the burden of the people. The goal is to make democracy more meaningful for the people.

“If not, then there is no meaning (to it all) other than our freedom and a new administration. There is only a short distance left to go, God willing,” he says as he kisses his daughter’s forehead.

Anwar’s wife, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, appears and says that Pakatan Harapan’s victory does not mean that their struggle will now be easier.

“We have to do it all (fulfil PH’s pledges). Why? We want to make the victory meaningful and with the help of the people, we can do it.”

Anwar adds: “As we have been doing all along, we will do this together. Through thick or thin.”

The three then hug, with the next scene showing Anwar’s family having dinner together, before a Raya message, including the words “continue the struggle”, appears.
