An exciting Raya on Media Prima channels

Action heroes Rosyam Nor, Remy Ishak and Zul Ariffin join TV regulars in touching dramas, while blockbuste­rs also take centre stage this Raya, writes Dennis Chua

LAST year’s biggest action hero Zul Ariffin is a star attraction on Media Prima’s Raya TV specials for 2018. His best-selling action adventure of last year, J Revolusi, made its debut at 10pm on TV3 yesterday. Zul will also star in TV3’s Jangan Benci Cintaku playing Shahrizal, who enters an arranged marriage during his teens and finds a new love as an adult, despite the fact that his wife has gradually developed feelings for him.

Jangan Benci Cintaku which stars Janna Nick will be screened at 7pm from Mondays to Fridays beginning June 29, for 28 weeks.

Top actor Datuk Rosyam Nor, no stranger to Raya dramas, has two tear-jerkers on TV3 this year. First, Mentari at 10pm, which aired yesterday, where he plays a father who cannot come to terms with his daughter’s upcoming marriage to her longtime boyfriend. Mentari also stars Zahirah MacWilson.

Second, Pendosa Ingin Ke Syurga at 10pm on June 22, where he plays a man who promises his wife that he will return to their hometown after finding a new job in KL, but does not keep his word.

As for Remy Ishak, the star of this year’s

most anticipate­d epic film Pulang, he will join veteran actress Ruminah Sidek in TV3’s Bahulu Untuk Opah at 5pm on Sunday. In this drama, he plays Badrul, an ex-convict who returns to his village to look for his grandmothe­r who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Last, but not least, the hugely-popular village businesswo­man Mak Cun played by Erma Fatima has another Raya adventure — Mak Cun Pi Amerika Lagi at 10pm on June 20. Her latest TV3 outing sees her follow her daughter Maya to Los Angeles, only to get cheated by a conman named Kelvin.

As for the Raya movies, TV3 has funnyman Zizan Razak’s Mael Lambong (11.30am today) and Jangan Pandang-Pandang (11.30am tomorrow), Bollywood icon Datuk Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabhi Kushi Kabhe Gham (2pm, tomorrow) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (2pm on June 23), US heart-throb Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 2 (12.30am today) and Mission Impossible 3 (12.30am on June 23), and Australian tough guy Hugh Jackman’s Real Steel (2pm on June 20).

Marvel blockbuste­rs Captain America: The First Avenger (TV3, 9pm on June 18), The Avengers (TV3, 9pm on June 19), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (ntv7, 9.30pm, tomorrow), and Guardians Of The Galaxy (ntv7, 9.30pm, today), will also await viewadvene­rs during the festive season.

Likewise, Sam Neill’s dinosaur ture Jurassic Park 3 (TV3, 4pm on June 21).

Media Prima Television Networks Chief Executive Officer Johan Ishak says that as in previous years, the company has ensured that there will be a good balance of popular actors and dramas, and the most recent and best-selling local movies, as well as Hollywood’s recent box office hits, on TV3, ntv7 and TV9.

“We’re also giving viewers Raya spinoffs of popular dramas, for example, Din Sardin Beraya and Wan Peah Balik Beraya, as well as special Raya editions of popular documentar­ies and talk shows — Jejak Rasul Ulul Azmi, Borak Kopitiam Raya Special, Istimewa Majalah 3, Melodi Raya, Bintang Bersama Bintang Raya, Feel Good Show Raya and Drop The Beat Special,” he said. Johan pointed out that this year’s celebrity Ramadan bazaar, Bazaar Terima Kasih, which was held at Amanjaya Mall in Sungai Petani, Kedah on May 26 and Dataran Klebang in Melaka on June 2, had attracted a lot of fans. It featured actors A mar B ah arin, Izzue Islam, Farah Nabilah, Erwin Dawson, Remy and Azira Syafinaz, among others.

“We’ve also been busy promoting Pulang by getting the main stars such as Remy to meet and greet fans in Pavilion Shopping Centre, Bukit Bintang. And Faizal Tahir has come up with a great campaign song, Starfeathe­r.”

Video streaming portal tonton is celebratin­g Raya with the #rayaMacamV­IP campaign while TV9’s CJ Wow Shop is promoting lots of Raya wear, as well as a chance for shoppers to win holidays to Turkey.

RADIO GOODIES

Meanwhile radio station Hot FM programmin­g head Aina Farhana added that it has a special Raya short film Mana Angah? ,in which comedian Shuk plays a middle child who feels that his parents ignore him. The comedy also stars Jalil Hamid, Fazlina Ahmad Daud, Issey, Farah and Ajak.

Hot FM will also have Raya programmes featuring singers Wany Hasrita, Ara Johari, Haqiem Rusli, Black, Tajul, Aiman Tino and Nabila Razali.

Kool FM programmin­g head Nik Nor Azura said the station has a special Raya medley performed by popular singers Datuk Nassier Wahab, Shiha Zikir, Lan Solo and Misha Omar, alongside the station’s announcers AG, Haiza, Muaz, Liza, Andy Hakim and Ezaq.

Misha will be promoting her new ballad Sampai Bila composed by Sharon Paul and written by Shah Shamsiri and Ahmad Fedtri Yahya, on Kool FM. “It will be out this Raya and is for my 2-year-old son Muhammad Idris Ezzwa,” she said.

As in previous years, we’re also giving viewers Raya spin-offs of popular dramas.
