An ex­cit­ing Raya on Me­dia Prima chan­nels

Ac­tion he­roes Rosyam Nor, Remy Ishak and Zul Arif­fin join TV reg­u­lars in touch­ing dra­mas, while block­busters also take cen­tre stage this Raya, writes Den­nis Chua


LAST year’s big­gest ac­tion hero Zul Arif­fin is a star at­trac­tion on Me­dia Prima’s Raya TV spe­cials for 2018. His best-sell­ing ac­tion ad­ven­ture of last year, J Revo­lusi, made its debut at 10pm on TV3 yes­ter­day. Zul will also star in TV3’s Jan­gan Benci Cin­taku play­ing Shahrizal, who en­ters an ar­ranged mar­riage dur­ing his teens and finds a new love as an adult, de­spite the fact that his wife has grad­u­ally de­vel­oped feel­ings for him.

Jan­gan Benci Cin­taku which stars Janna Nick will be screened at 7pm from Mon­days to Fri­days be­gin­ning June 29, for 28 weeks.

Top ac­tor Datuk Rosyam Nor, no stranger to Raya dra­mas, has two tear-jerk­ers on TV3 this year. First, Men­tari at 10pm, which aired yes­ter­day, where he plays a fa­ther who can­not come to terms with his daugh­ter’s up­com­ing mar­riage to her long­time boyfriend. Men­tari also stars Zahi­rah MacWil­son.

Sec­ond, Pen­dosa In­gin Ke Syurga at 10pm on June 22, where he plays a man who prom­ises his wife that he will re­turn to their home­town af­ter find­ing a new job in KL, but does not keep his word.

As for Remy Ishak, the star of this year’s

most an­tic­i­pated epic film Pu­lang, he will join vet­eran ac­tress Ru­mi­nah Sidek in TV3’s Bahulu Un­tuk Opah at 5pm on Sun­day. In this drama, he plays Badrul, an ex-con­vict who re­turns to his vil­lage to look for his grand­mother who is suf­fer­ing from Alzheimer’s dis­ease.

Last, but not least, the hugely-pop­u­lar vil­lage busi­ness­woman Mak Cun played by Erma Fa­tima has an­other Raya ad­ven­ture — Mak Cun Pi Amerika Lagi at 10pm on June 20. Her lat­est TV3 out­ing sees her fol­low her daugh­ter Maya to Los An­ge­les, only to get cheated by a conman named Kelvin.

As for the Raya movies, TV3 has fun­ny­man Zizan Razak’s Mael Lam­bong (11.30am to­day) and Jan­gan Pan­dang-Pan­dang (11.30am to­mor­row), Bol­ly­wood icon Datuk Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabhi Kushi Kabhe Gham (2pm, to­mor­row) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (2pm on June 23), US heart-throb Tom Cruise’s Mis­sion Im­pos­si­ble 2 (12.30am to­day) and Mis­sion Im­pos­si­ble 3 (12.30am on June 23), and Australian tough guy Hugh Jack­man’s Real Steel (2pm on June 20).

Marvel block­busters Cap­tain Amer­ica: The First Avenger (TV3, 9pm on June 18), The Avengers (TV3, 9pm on June 19), Cap­tain Amer­ica: The Win­ter Sol­dier (ntv7, 9.30pm, to­mor­row), and Guardians Of The Galaxy (ntv7, 9.30pm, to­day), will also await viewad­ven­ers dur­ing the fes­tive sea­son.

Like­wise, Sam Neill’s di­nosaur ture Jurassic Park 3 (TV3, 4pm on June 21).

Me­dia Prima Tele­vi­sion Net­works Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Jo­han Ishak says that as in pre­vi­ous years, the com­pany has en­sured that there will be a good bal­ance of pop­u­lar ac­tors and dra­mas, and the most re­cent and best-sell­ing lo­cal movies, as well as Hol­ly­wood’s re­cent box of­fice hits, on TV3, ntv7 and TV9.

“We’re also giv­ing view­ers Raya spinoffs of pop­u­lar dra­mas, for ex­am­ple, Din Sardin Ber­aya and Wan Peah Ba­lik Ber­aya, as well as spe­cial Raya edi­tions of pop­u­lar doc­u­men­taries and talk shows — Je­jak Ra­sul Ulul Azmi, Bo­rak Ko­pi­tiam Raya Spe­cial, Is­timewa Ma­jalah 3, Melodi Raya, Bin­tang Ber­sama Bin­tang Raya, Feel Good Show Raya and Drop The Beat Spe­cial,” he said. Jo­han pointed out that this year’s celebrity Ra­madan bazaar, Bazaar Ter­ima Kasih, which was held at Aman­jaya Mall in Sungai Pe­tani, Kedah on May 26 and Dataran Kle­bang in Me­laka on June 2, had at­tracted a lot of fans. It fea­tured ac­tors A mar B ah arin, Iz­zue Is­lam, Farah Na­bi­lah, Erwin Dawson, Remy and Azira Sya­fi­naz, among oth­ers.

“We’ve also been busy pro­mot­ing Pu­lang by get­ting the main stars such as Remy to meet and greet fans in Pavil­ion Shop­ping Cen­tre, Bukit Bin­tang. And Faizal Tahir has come up with a great cam­paign song, Star­feather.”

Video stream­ing por­tal ton­ton is cel­e­brat­ing Raya with the #rayaMa­camVIP cam­paign while TV9’s CJ Wow Shop is pro­mot­ing lots of Raya wear, as well as a chance for shop­pers to win hol­i­days to Turkey.


Mean­while ra­dio sta­tion Hot FM pro­gram­ming head Aina Farhana added that it has a spe­cial Raya short film Mana An­gah? ,in which co­me­dian Shuk plays a mid­dle child who feels that his par­ents ig­nore him. The com­edy also stars Jalil Hamid, Fa­zlina Ah­mad Daud, Issey, Farah and Ajak.

Hot FM will also have Raya programmes fea­tur­ing singers Wany Has­rita, Ara Jo­hari, Haqiem Rusli, Black, Ta­jul, Ai­man Tino and Nabila Razali.

Kool FM pro­gram­ming head Nik Nor Azura said the sta­tion has a spe­cial Raya med­ley per­formed by pop­u­lar singers Datuk Nassier Wa­hab, Shiha Zikir, Lan Solo and Misha Omar, along­side the sta­tion’s an­nounc­ers AG, Haiza, Muaz, Liza, Andy Hakim and Ezaq.

Misha will be pro­mot­ing her new bal­lad Sam­pai Bila com­posed by Sharon Paul and writ­ten by Shah Sham­siri and Ah­mad Fedtri Yahya, on Kool FM. “It will be out this Raya and is for my 2-year-old son Muhammad Idris Ez­zwa,” she said.

As in pre­vi­ous years, we’re also giv­ing view­ers Raya spin-offs of pop­u­lar dra­mas.
