‘I WILL TAKE IT UP WITH MACC’

Bukit Bintang MP vows to lodge report if there is misappropriation

- TEOH PEI YING

BUKIT Bintang member of parliament Fong Kui Lun vows to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if it is proven that funds were misappropriated in the Jalan Masjid India Ramadan bazaar scandal.

Fong said he was disappointed with the news that Bukit Bintang Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief Mohd Noorhisyam Abdul Karim was accused of collecting RM5,000 from each stall operators at the bazaar.

He denied receiving money allegedly collected by Noorhisyam.

Fong said on June 5, Noorhisyam asked him for a support letter to help traders who had failed to obtain licences from City Hall to set up stalls at the bazaar.

He said Noorhisyam stated he would not take money from the traders.

Fong said he had only wanted to help traders apply for lots, and had issued the support letter on the condition that apart from City Hall, nobody else should collect money from them.

He stressed that the traders had to get the approval of City Hall to operate at the bazaar.

Fond said he had contacted the traders and other parties involved to get explanations and gather evidence. He urged those with information to contact him or report to police.

It was reported that Noorhisyam has denied taking money and is mulling lodging a police report over the matter.
