- SUZAINI SULAIMAN

AFTER years of waiting, Tanjung Karang will have a new hospital by November 2020. Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the old hospital, which was built in 1966, had limited capacity compared with the health and medical needs of people here.

“In a bid to ensure locals receive quality healthcare and medical services, the Health Ministry is committed to upgrading the hospital’s status to a specialist hospital, as well as increase the number of beds to accommodate patients.

“This new hospital will soon be a ‘minor specialist hospital’ with 150 beds and will have specialists in emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthesiology and critical treatment, radiology and psychiatry.”

Dr Dzulkefly said this after visiting Hospital Tanjung Karang in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here yesterday.

He presented aid to 40 patients.

“This visit demonstrates the ministry’s commitment in responding to the new government’s call to care for the welfare of the people by providing the best healthcare services.

“This visit not only strengthens relationship, but also strengthens unity regardless of religion, race and colour.”

Present was the hospital director Dr Mohd Zamri Wagiman.
