SABAH COPS FOCUS ON MARITIME SECURITY
Police on standby to prevent kidnappings, robberies on east coast, says state chief
POLICE are on high alert in Sabah’s east coast to prevent cross-border criminals from taking advantage of the Aidilfitri celebrations to carry out kidnappings or robberies.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said police would not be complacent and would continue working with the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) to improve maritime security.
“We will not compromise on anything that can jeorpardise sovereignty and people’s safety.
“Sabah police are prepared to respond to any emergency, and we will remain alert at all times.”
Ramli was speaking at a Hari Raya open house at the state police headquarters here on Friday. He said police would patrol accident-prone areas and housing estates throughout Op Selamat.
He said the open house was meaningful for police personnel, who could not return home for Hari Raya, saying it was an event that could strengthen ties.
Present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, state Law and Native Affairs Assistant Ministers Jannie Lasimbang and Uda Sulai, as well as Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.
In his Hari Raya message, Wilfred said Aidilfitri was an opportunity for Malaysians in Sabah to come together.
“I call on people to give their support to the new government so we can move forward according to the vision, aspiration and goals that the government has outlined for us.”
