Manipal produces the best

- Has not looked back

SINCE its establishment two decades ago, Melaka-Manipal Medical College remains one of the top medical schools in the country. The college is a branch campus of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, or simple known as Manipal. Manipal’s founder, Dr T.M.A Pai, considered health and education to be the twin pillars of a vigorous society.

Since the launch of the first private medical institution in India in 1965, the iconic Kasturba Medical College, Manipal has been on an incredible journey of excellence in education and healthcare.

Many Malaysians have made a beeline for Manipal for high quality medical education since the 1960s — so much that it is believed that one in every four to six doctors in Malaysia is a Manipal alumnus.

It was on the back of this wellearned reputation that the Manipal group was invited to set up a medical school in Malaysia, and Melaka-Manipal since its inception in 19997.

Specialising in medical education, the college offers the MBBS and the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degrees.

It runs a Foundation in Science (FIS) programme for school leavers, where they undertake a year of pre-university studies and are given a groundwork of medical subjects they will encounter in their degree studies.

Manipal too has a fully-fledged Malaysian university in the Manipal International University in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, which offers Engineering, Business and Sciences degrees, postgraduate degrees, diplomas and Foundation courses.

Melaka-Manipal’s MBBS and BDS programmes are intentionally designed to couple the highly reputed Indian medical education with intense training in Malaysia.

Students complete their pre-clinical studies, which includes anatomy sessions with human cadavers, over two-and-a-half years and then hone their clinical skills in Malaysian hospitals such as the Melaka General Hospital.

The slant towards hands-on training is spread right across the medical and dentistry programmes, which graduates find exceptionally advantageous when they commence practice in real life. The accommodation in Manipal, India, is considered to be similar to a five-star hotel and comes with 24hour security and live-in wardens. Lecture halls are a mere twominute walk away and the library and food outlets are located just a stone’s throw away from the hostels. Nestled within tranquil surroundings, Melaka-Manipal campuses in Melaka and Muar are ideally situated close to town, and are shining examples of modern campuses, balancing excellent academic facilities with recreational ones for students and staff.

All three campuses have advanced classrooms and laboratories, sharing space with a football field, a fully-equipped sports hall and gymnasium, swimming pool and even a Zen room, for relaxation and recharging.

The October intake for the MBBS and BDS and July intake for the FIS is currently open.

Students may apply with provisional / AS results to “reserve” their places for the programmes of their interest.

Scholarships are available for the FIS and MBBS students have the option of a PTPTN loan, for those who need financial aid.
