First 20 hours crucial, says Jazeman

driver Jazeman Jaafar believes it is imperative that his car keeps it together until they reach the business end of the race if they are to make an impact at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which started late yesterday.

The Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota driver, who shares car No 37 with teammates Nabil Jeffri and Weiron Tan, said making it past the 20-hour mark without mishap is imperative.

The trio are competing in the LMP2 division and had qualified 10th in class on Thursday.

“The first aim is to get past the 20-hour mark (without mishap),” said Jazeman.

“The challenge is to get through that without making mistakes and also remaining consistent while having to do almost two to three hour stints (per driver) in the car.

“And after that (hopefully) get into a rhythm and slowly build up a strong pace.”

Jazeman added that the unpredictable weather at Le Mans will also be a factor in the race.

“Day one (Tuesday) was humid, day two (Wednesday) was cloudy, in qualifying (Thursday) there was some rain, getting the tyres to work (well) is very different here.

“Otherwise, the race is going (according to forecast) to be warm, but I believe there will be some rain at night, so we have to keep it clean and maintain a consistent performance,” added Jazeman, who set the fastest lap in qualifying.

The trio started from 20th on the grid yesterday.
