Outsiders shouldn’t comment on party election, says Umno
KUALA LUMPUR: Those who are not Umno party members should refrain from making statements related to the party election.
Umno strategic communications unit, in a statement yesterday, warned leaders and members of other political parties to stop interfering in the Umno election process.
It said involvement by those outside the party was an act of provocation to pit party members against one another as they offer themselves to contest top positions in Umno.
“The party election is Umno’s affair and former leaders and party members who are now with PKR or PPBM cannot intervene.
“It is unwarranted for anyone outside the party to choose or suggest an individual or even predict the party’s election results.
“We are puzzled by the interference,” it said.
Umno said it had practised democracy in its election process since the end of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership, starting from Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to the time of Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“We welcome all party members who wish to contest the party election on June 30 for all
“This is different from the elections held in the days of Tun Mahathir as president, where the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in Umno would come ‘recommended’ without competition,” it said, adding that Lim Kit Siang was no different because he too practised the same process in DAP.
The statement urged Pakatan Harapan members to stop sticking their noses into other party’s issues and instead concentrate on their own problems.
