Warisan to file 8 polls petitions
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah will file election petitions at the High Court here today to challenge the results of four parliamentary and four state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
The move is to overturn Barisan Nasional (BN) polls’ victories, including seats defended by Tan Sri Musa Aman (Sungai Sibuga state seat) and his brother Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (Kimanis parliamentary seat).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said he had given the mandate to a team of lawyers to file the petitions simultaneously as there was clear evidence of intimidation and cheating.
“The law must prevail. Don’t think that just because we are now the government, we are going to pardon them if they have broken the laws.
“I’m sure our lawyers will look into the facts and evidence,” said Shafie, adding that if there was only a slim chance, like 20 per cent, of winning a case, they would not have proceeded.
Shafie, who is Warisan president, was speaking at the Sabah cabinet’s Hari Raya open house at Menara Tun Mustapha here.
Warisan is also expected to file a petition on the Keningau parliamentary seat won by Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
Other parliamentary seats being questioned are Sipitang (Musa’s son Hafez Musa of BN-Umno) and Libaran (Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris of BN-Umno).
The state seats involved are Sook (Datuk Ellron Angin of BN-Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah), Kundasang (Datuk Joachim Gunsalam BN-Parti Bersatu Sabah) and Kiulu (Datuk Joniston Bangkuai of BN-Parti Bersatu Sabah).
He said the electoral offences included offering money to buy votes and issues of additional postal vote boxes and Borang 14.
Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr said a press conference would be held at 9am today after the filing.
