MRA MEDICAL DIRECTOR INJURED IN ACCIDENT
Dr Zafri Ismadi lost control of vehicle when he tried to avoid a lorry
THE Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) medical director, who was badly injured in an accident on the East Coast Expressway on Hari Raya eve, has undergone two operations at Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh, Pahang.
Dr Zafri Ismadi Mohd Anis, who is also a paediatrician at the same hospital, was on his way to Bangi to celebrate Aidilfitri when the accident occurred near Bentong at 7pm.
He had apparently lost control of his vehicle while avoiding a lorry, and suffered fractures to both legs, a stage 4 spleen injury and damage to his lungs.
“He is in the intensive care ward after doctors performed two surgeries to remove his spleen and install iron implants in his fractured legs.
“The surgeries have been successful, but he is still in critical condition and is breathing through a respirator,” MRA secretary-general Dr Shahrizal Azwan Samsudin said yesterday.
He described Dr Zafri as an active humanitarian worker and committed child specialist who had volunteered in many domestic and international missions with MRA.
His most recent humanitarian effort was as part of a mission to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, organised by the Health Ministry to treat Rohingya refugees there.
“MRA appeals to Malaysians to pray for Dr Zafri’s full recovery,” he said.
