Op Selamat records 3,602 road accidents from June 8 in Selangor

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Traffic Enforcemen­t and Investigat­ion Department has issued 27,982 summonses to road users since the Op Selamat 13/2018 kicked off on June 8.

Its chief, Superinten­dent Azman Shari’at, said up to June 15, Pol.257 notices were issued to 10,357 road users, while the remaining 17,625 people were issued the Pol.170A summonses.

He said 3,602 road accidents were recorded during the eightday period, of which 27 were fatal accidents.

Motorcycli­sts, he said, were involved in the majority of fatal accidents, followed by car drivers.

“Of the number of deaths, 13 were motorcycli­sts, eight car drivers, two lorry drivers, one taxi driver and three pillion riders.

“The fatal accidents took place in North Klang (3); Sabak Bernam (3); Ampang Jaya (5); Gombak (4); Kuala Selangor (4); Kuala Langat (2); Kajang (2); Hulu Selangor (1); South Klang (2); and, Sepang (1),” he said.

Op Selamat aims to reduce road accidents, facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure property safety.

It was reported earlier that Selangor police had identified 63 accident-prone hotspots in the state, of which they would focus during Op Selamat 13/2018, held in conjunctio­n with this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Among the locations were the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway, Maju Expressway, Jalan Sungai Buloh-Kuala Selangor, Guthrie Corridor Expressway and New North Klang Straits Bypass or Shapadu Highway.
