MP QUITS UMNO; PH SAYS WILL NOT RUSH INTO ACCEPTING EX-BN LEADERS

- House in Tanjung Rambutan here yesterday.

IPOH: Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said yesterday the decision whether to accept applications from former Umno and Barisan Nasional members to join state Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) rests with the party’s top leaders.

He said it was crucial to follow the procedures set by the party’s top leaders to process the application, adding that the decision should not be made at the state level.

“At the state PPBM level, if we receive an application for PPBM membership, we will let the top leaders decide,” he said.

Faizal, who is also state PPBM chairman, said this during a press conference after attending the Pakatan Harapan Hari Raya open

He was commenting on Bagan Serai member of parliament Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, who stated his wish of joining PPBM after quitting Umno yesterday.

“I have never contacted him and I do not know about his decision to leave Umno and Barisan Nasional.

“I would like to thank him for supporting me as a menteri besar, as well as for his support for the government,” he said.

It was reported that Dr Noor Azmi announced his departure from BN and that he would become an independent representative.

He also stated his support for the Federal Government and the state government.
