Mujahid confirms receiving invite to Istana Negara
KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara vicepresident Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa has acknowledged that he had received a notification to attend a swearing-in ceremony at Istana Negara on July 2.
The Parit Buntar member of parliament said he heard rumours that he would be in the cabinet, which will be announced next week, but could not verify them.
“I have not received any official invitation, but have received a call to attend the ceremony.
“This is just a general invitation. There is no black or white yet. So, I do not know whether I will be appointed minister.”
Parti Warisan Sabah deputy president Darell Leiking confirmed that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad contacted him, but did not elaborate.
“It is difficult for me to confirm any information or rumour. If it is true, then it is good for Sabah and the Federal Government,” said the Penampang MP.
It is understood that if Darell is appointed to the cabinet, he will likely become the first international trade and industry minister from Sabah.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) secretary-general Annuar Tahir declined to confirm if he would be named minister.
The Temerloh MP, however, acknowledged that several PPBM leaders would be made ministers or deputy ministers.
“I cannot confirm whether my name is part of the cabinet list, even if I was linked to several ministries before.”
It is learnt that Annuar could be made deputy works minister. He confirmed that PPBM submitted five names for the cabinet.
