Muhyiddin: Jamal’s whereabouts identified
KUALA LUMPUR: The police have identified the whereabouts of Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos in Indonesia a month after he disappeared.
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the ministry had sought the cooperation of Indonesian authorities on the arrangements to bring Jamal back to Malaysia.
“We are cooperating with Indonesian police. They have hinted follow-up actions to detain Jamal. We will bring him back to Malaysia.
“Police have previously worked with Indonesian authorities to locate Jamal, who was believed to have escaped to an island in the neighbouring country,” he said after launching the federal police’s Special Branch Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here yesterday.
Jamal, 48, who was undergoing treatment for his back pain, reportedly escaped from Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25.
His disappearance was noticed by a Shah Alam court assistant registrar, who went to the hospital at 5.30pm.
Jamal, who was previously charged with public nuisance, denied escaping police custody and said he left, thinking that the bail process had been completed.
He had made statements through voice recordings, saying that he went to Tabung Haji to withdraw money.
He had said he would go to the Ampang Jaya police headquarters to complete his bail process, but failed to turn up, prompting police to issue arrest warrants against him.
