PERAK GLC EXECS FACE THE SACK
Many GLCs in state have a surplus of personnel, says MB
PERAK is studying the possibility of ending the services of more senior officers of governmentlinked companies (GLCs) in the state.
This came after it was found that those holding such positions did not bring any benefit to the companies.
However, Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the state government would not rush such a drastic action as many of the senior officers were still under contract.
He said a review found that GLCs in the state had too many personnel, including lower rung and support staff, adding that their services were sometimes not required.
“I found that these GLCs have too many senior officers, which is a surplus and does not bring any benefit.
“We are of the view that their services need not be continued. If such measures are taken, it will save the company’s expenses, which can be used for more beneficial things.
“There are also too many lower-rung personnel.
“However, we will not rush into a decision as we are aware that if we were to sack a driver, it will not only affect him, but also his family.
“For low-paid staff, we will not rush into taking action.
“However, we will look into how to minimise expenses in such companies.”
He said ending contracts of such senior officers early and reducing manpower were steps to save GLCs in the state.
He said Pakatan Harapan kept its manifesto promise by tabling the audit report of all GLCs in the state assembly.
Faizal said this after receiving a RM500,000 donation for Tabung Harapan Malaysia from Unisem (M) Bhd through its chairman, John Chia Sin Tet.
