UMNO needs credible leaders, whose integrity cannot be called into question so that it could return as a strong party.

Umno presidential candidate Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said party members needed to choose their leaders carefully as the organisation needed those who were free of scandal or controversy.

“Umno members need to put forward a leadership line-up who are professional in strengthening the party again so as to reverse the trust deficit among the rakyat (towards the party). Umno leaders must not be arrogant. They need to look to the people and listen to them.

“If we have a strong line-up of people (leaders and members) who are not connected to scandals, then InsyaAllah, Umno will win the support of Malays and non-Malays,” he said at Johor Umno’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here on Monday.

Present were Johor Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Benut assemblyman Datuk Hasni Mohammad and Umno Johor secretary Datuk Md Jais Sarday.

Tengku Razaleigh reminded those contesting in the party election that the task of rebuilding Umno would not be easy.

“The election this time is not to choose the prime minister or deputy prime minister, nor even to gain positions, contracts or projects.

“I want to rebuild Umno. This will not be (an) easy (task).”
