SCRAPPING OF UNITS TO BOOST PERFORMANCE
Restructuring exercise will restore public confidence, says home minister
THREE special units will be abolished as part of a restructuring exercise to improve the performance of the police force. Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the restructuring exercise would also involve several departments.
Muhyiddin said he was briefed on the matter by police senior management during a meeting.
He was speaking after attending the inspector-general of police’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Bukit Aman here yesterday
Present was Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, his deputy, Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa.
Muhyiddin said the restructuring would improve the force’s performance.
The move would see people regaining confidence in police and restore the force’s image, he said.
“Several special units, which had previously been established, have been proposed to be disbanded,” he said.
“I will announce the details in a week or two.”
Fuzi said the units involved in the restructuring exercise were the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc), Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg) and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting).
“We will make an internal restructuring and revamp,” he said.
Fuzi said police would prepare a report on the restructuring exercise soon.
