GRABPAY MAKES DEBUT
New service allows users to make cashless payments for rides, products
GRAB, Malaysia and Southeast Asia’s leading Online-to-Offline platform, aims to double the number of food and beverage (F&B) merchants in its GrabPay Mobile Wallet (GrabPay) from 500 to 1,000 in the next two months.
GrabPay Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines managing director Ooi Huey Tyng said the company would place greater focus on F&B merchants to encourage the use of cashless payment in the country.
“For starters, we will focus on these merchants before expanding into other segments. Millions of Grab users are now able to access the mobile wallet function, which is safe, simple and flexible,” she said at the launch of GrabPay here yesterday.
She said the service, which accepted debit or credit cards previously, had been upgraded thanks to the e-wallet, which could be accessed via the Grab application to reload and spend “GrabPay credits”.
“Other than using the Grab application to pay for services, such as GrabFood and transport, users can also use it at partner premises that have the GrabPay QR code.
“Consumers can transfer money directly to each other conveniently via the app with just a few simple taps. What’s stopping many in Malaysia from adopting cashless payment is the perceived lack of safety and convenience. With GrabPay, consumers can participate in the cashless, digital economy without having to download additional apps.
“By topping up money on Grab as your everyday app, you can track your spending and pay cashlessly, conveniently and safely.”
GrabPay is accepted by 500 F&B merchants in the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Baru, Ipoh, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Kuantan.
