For skin health
The right skincare products is important to address dehydrated skin, writes Meera Murugesan
SKIN needs hydration. It’s a fact. If you have ever felt a tightness or feeling of discomfort on your skin or if your lines and wrinkles seemed more visible or pronounced than normal, then, you have experienced dehydrated skin.
It is the most common skin problem for women of all ages, says Cinthia Montoro, international trainer for Sothys Paris.
Dehydrated skin, she explains, tends to look dull and has an ageing effect given that it isn’t soft and supple. In other words, it’s enemy number one for women who pride themselves on good skin health.
Hydration is known for having a very strong impact on skin qualities such as radiance, elasticity, a youthful appearance and even skin comfort.
Simply put, well- hydrated skin is supple and looks plump and youthful.
“Even in a tropical climate like Malaysia, dehydration is a concern for women because skin is exposed to harsh UV rays and at the same time, people tend to spend a lot of time in an air conditioned environment which also causes dehydration,” says Montoro.
And when skin is dehydrated, fine lines or “cracks” on the face look more visible, leading to an ageing effect. SUN EXPOSURE
UVA rays affect our skin, increase oxidants in the skin, cause dehydration and increase free radicals in the cells, causing skin damage.
HOT SHOWERS AND BATHS Taking very frequent hot showers or baths may be comforting but it damages the skin and saps it of moisture. It’s best to stick to warm rather than hot water or keep hot showers very short.
AGEING
It’s a fact that as our skin ages, it loses its ability to keep its moisture levels high. As we age, our entire body including the skin becomes more dehydrated.
AIR CONDITIONING Being in an air conditioned environment for prolonged periods does more harm than good. It will result in dehydration and skin that lacks moisture.
USING WRONG SKINCARE
Products which are too harsh on the skin can sap it of its natural moisture, leading to dehydration and other skin problems. The serum penetrates deeper into skin for long lasting results. (besides consuming enough water) is to use the right skincare products.
Products which can deliver water to the skin and help skin retain moisture make a huge difference and one of the key ingredients in such products is hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in the skin which helps it to attract and hold moisture. A true sponge so to speak, it contributes to the density, cohesion, moisture and elasticity of skin. Keeping this in mind, Sothys Hydra3Ha range contains two creams (in different textures) and a mask with high molecular weight hyaluronic acid which acts immediately on the skin surface to restore and retain hydration.
The range also includes a serum with low molecular weight hyaluronic acid to penetrate deeper into skin to ensure long lasting effects. Montoro says products with high molecular weight hyaluronic acid act on the skin surface so one immediately feels a difference in skin texture while those with low molecular weight hyaluronic acid are able to go deeper into skin for long-term results. The Hydra3Ha range also contains the patented 1055 Boletus extract from an edible mushroom which helps skin boost its own production of hyaluronic acid. Montoro says there are many products in the market which target dehydration but the Hydra3Ha range exposes skin to a triple “dose” of hyaluronic acid. “As a result, you not only get an immediate answer to dehydration but also long-lasting action to erase the problem.”
Many products in the market she adds, may only target the problem on the surface but this range is able to do both — act on the surface and go deeper for long-term effects. Montoro says dehydrated skin is the most common skin problem.
