DESPITE objections from traders and associations, City Hall is firm in its decision to stop the Ramadan and Deepavali bazaar operations at Masjid India and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman beginning next year.

Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said the decision was due to the large number of complaints received from business operators, including about rubbish left by traders and traffic congestion in the area.

However, he said, the weekend night market in the area would not be affected.

“The bazaar was not meant for permanent business activities. We received numerous complaints from owners about the premises operating their businesses in that area.

“Among the complaints received were that some of bazaar traders had misused their permits by renting out their lots to other traders for a higher rental.

“They also left the bazaar dirty and the traffic was always congested during festive seasons.

“City Hall stands firm in its decision to shut down bazaar operations surrounding the area by next year,” he said at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house organised by City Hall here yesterday.

He was commenting on its decision to stop bazaar operations beginning next year reported by a local English daily two days ago.

The bazaar, also known as Masjid India Bazaar, was opened in 2003 and had 100 lots.

This year, 300 lots were opened for the bazaar.

He said bazaar traders could carry out their businesses in other areas in the Klang Valley.

Asked if City Hall would do the same with other bazaars that had the same problems, he said as of now, only bazaars in this area were experiencing the problems and it would not affect other bazaars.

Amin Nordin said traders who were looking for other locations should seek permission from the organisers or persons in charge.
