CABINET ministers in the new government found to be involved in corruption and misappropriation will be dropped immediately, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“If today they are involved (with corruption), we will take action and sack them,” he told Malaysian media during his twoday official visit to Indonesia, which ended yesterday.

Dr Mahathir was commenting on the criteria of the new cabinet ministers of the Pakatan Harapan government slated to be sworn in on Monday.

When asked on the resignation of several government-linked companies (GLCs) leaders and senior management, Dr Mahathir said many of them were politically appointed by the previous government and were incompetent.

“Generally, we found those appointed not because they were capable in financial and business management, but because they were party supporters.

He said this factor resulted in the failure of projects, as well as financial mismanagement.

“They were among the 17,000 political appointees in the previous government which included ambassadors who were not capable and inexperienced.”

He said under the new government, only professionals would lead the management of GLCs.

Dr Mahathir said GLC heads would not receive high salaries, but instead be given bonuses if they showed good performance.
