Idris, Ahmad Razif lose division chief posts

THE Umno division election for the 2018-2021 term yesterday saw two state liaison chiefs failing to defend their posts. In Terengganu, former menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman failed to defend his Kuala Nerus Umno division chief post.

The state Umno liaison chairman received 424 votes, losing to his challenger, the division’s vicechief, Apli Yusoff, who garnered 465 votes. Apli won with a majority of 41 votes.

In Melaka, former chief minister and state Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Idris Haron failed to defend his Batu Tangga division chief post.

Idris, who received 151 votes, lost to the division’s committee member, Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, who received 353 votes.

Mohamad Ali won with a majority of 202 votes.

In Negri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan retained his post as Rembau Umno division chief after defeating Datuk Rais Zainuddin in the party polls yesterday.

He garnered 754 votes, while Rais, who is also Chembong assemblyma­n, managed only 23 votes.

Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, is also contesting the Umno deputy president’s post.

The division’s deputy chief post went to Khairy Jamaluddin, who won unopposed.

Khairy is also contesting the party president’s post.

In Port Dickson, Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad decided not to defend the division’s chief post, paving the way for the division’s former informatio­n chief Mohd Faizal Ramli to helm the post after defeating Bagan Pinang assemblyma­n Datuk Tun Hairuddin Abu Bakar.

Faizal, who was formerly Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s special officer, managed 253 votes against Hairuddin’s 133.

As for Jelebu and Tampin, contenders for both division’s chief posts won unopposed — Datuk Jalaludin Alias for Jelebu and Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa for Tampin.

Datuk Mohd Salim Sharif defended his Jempol division chief post after defeating Datuk Lilah Yasin.

Up to 6.30pm, results for three more Negri Sembilan divisions — Kuala Pilah, Rasah and Seremban — are pending.

In Pahang, a prediction on who will helm its Kuantan division came true when Datuk Seri Ab Hamid Mohd Nazahar defeated Datuk Seri Shafik Fauzan Sharif for the post.

Hamid, 53, who was previously Kuantan Umno division deputy chief, garnered 284 votes, while his opponent managed only 125 votes.

As for the division’s new deputy chief, the post went to Datuk Seri Wan Adnan Wan Mamat, who saw off Mohd Sharir @ Mohd Shaharir Abdullah.

Nara @ Nikman Nordin won the division’s vice-chief post unconteste­d. Having lost in 2013, Datuk Ahmad Tajuddin Sulaiman is back as Paya Besar Umno division chief after defeating Sungai Lembing assemblyma­n Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah.

In Raub, Datuk Abdul Aziz Mat Kiram is the new division chief after defeating Datuk Mohd Ghazali Kamaruzama­n.

In Perlis, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim retained his post as Arau division chief with 507 votes. His opponent, Mohd Khalid Ahmad, managed 96 votes.

In Perak, former domestic trade, cooperativ­es and consumeris­m minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin was elected Larut division chief after defeating Nordin Hassan.

The post was previously held by Datuk Faizul Arby Mohd Shohor.
