Abandoned Johor project to be ready in March
JOHOR BARU: The Housing and Local Government Ministry yesterday gave its assurance that the Taman Seri Molek Perdana Apartment project, which was left abandoned for five years since 2013, would be completed and ready for occupation in March next year.
Its minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), which had taken over the project, had also agreed to pay the liquidated ascertained damages (LAD) for late delivery to the buyers concerned as provided under the sales and purchase agreement.
“The developer, which is SPNB, has promised to pay LAD to the buyers, only that there is the possibility of the payment to be made in stages within a year.
“I was made to understand that for a house, the average LAD is between RM30,000 and RM60,000,” she said after visiting the project site here yesterday.
Present were SPNB group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Azizi Ali, Johor Baru Mayor Amran A. Rahman and Cosmic Master Development Sdn Bhd director Chok Kim Sin.
Zuraida said a letter would be issued by SPNB to the banks concerned to inform them that the buyers would be able to pay their instalment arrears when they received their LAD payment, scheduled after March next year.
“Therefore, I hope the banks involved will cooperate by giving space for the buyers to settle their debts,” she added.
She assured the buyers that the housing project would be ready as promised with a new contractor being appointed to complete it.
“Work is almost 90 per cent done. Only the lift, door and external work, such as road widening and water supply, need to be completed,” she said.
According to media reports, home buyers were disappointed due to the failure of the developer to complete it as promised.
The project, involving six blocks with 972 apartment units, covers 8.5ha.
Work on the project started in 2010 and was scheduled for completion in 2013.
The apartment units were sold for between RM50,000 and RM250,000 each.
