ENGINEER GOES INTO CAT CARE BUSINESS

Her shop sells grooming necessities and provides ‘hotel’ facilities

-

FAIZULNIZA Puzi has no regrets choosing to pursue her love of cats over a career as an engineer. The 35-year-old mother of four, fondly known as Niza, left her job in 2012 and opened a cat shop known as “Geli-Geli Kucing”, which sells cat essentials, grooming necessities, and provides “cat hotel” facilities here in 2013.

She said the idea of running the shop came about after looking at the high demand for cat care services in the district. Its second branch in Meru, Ipoh, was opened in 2016.

“There are a lot of pet shops, but none of them focused on cats, I seized the opportunity after seeing that there was a demand for cat shops, especially among Malays,” she said.

On her choice of shop name, Niza said it was inspired by those who were squeamish about cats.

Niza said she always reminded her 15 staff to carry out their task in the best possible way as they had been entrusted to treat and care for their customers’ feline companions.

Asked on the Geli-Geli Kucing cat hotel, she said the prices ranged from RM12 to RM35 depending on the package.

“We advise owners to bring their own cat food as animals have sensitive stomachs,” she said, adding that the cat hotel would always be fully booked for the festive season.

Niza said following the encouraging response, she planned to open another branch in Manjung before the Aidiladha celebration this year and to franchise her business.
