IPOH: They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And this is certainly true in the case of Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof, who has inherited the prowess of his late father in the political arena.

The son of the first Pas murshyidul am (spiritual leader), Tuan Guru Yusof Rawa, Mujahid retained the Parit Buntar parliamentary seat for the third term in the 14th General Election.

Better known as “Mujahid Yusof Rawa”, he is the vice-president of Parti Amanah Negara, formed in 2015.

Born on Oct 25, 1964 in George Town, Penang, Mujahid studied in Penang Free School before obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language at the Al-Azhar University in Egypt.

He then pursued a master’s degree in Human Resource at Universiti Putra Malaysia, followed by a doctorate in Syariah Knowledge (Political Science) at Universiti Malaya.

The father of three has worked as a lecturer in Universiti Multimedia Melaka and is Penang Amanah chairman.

Newly appointed Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar is very much a people’s leader.

His ability to engage the people comes with the commitment and passion he has in serving young and old, from all walks of life.

Before he joined politics, Dr Jayakumar was a member of the Rotary Club in Klang (now a life member) and chairman of the Klang Educational Welfare Research Foundation for many years.

The 65-year-old dentist has been involved in various issues affecting his constituents, some of which include their personal problems.

He has also been very vocal on matters pertaining to water issues and, more recently, on Selangor’s water restructuring exercise.

Dr Jayakumar studied at SMK St Michael (formerly St Michael’s Institution) in Ipoh, Perak.

He then pursued his tertiary studies at the College of Dental Surgery in Manipal, India, where he obtained a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
