Kok to ensure viability of commodities industry
PUTRAJAYA: Newly-app ointe d Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok Suh Sim will focus on ensuring the viability of the commodities industry across its entire value chain, encompassing both upstream and downstream sectors.
Kok said the first focus would be on sustainable development to maintain the country’s natural environment and biodiversity.
The ministry, she added, would work towards improving its efficiency in becoming more investorand business-friendly.
“We will pay attention to efforts undertaken by agencies under this ministry to make it easier to conduct business and trade,” she said yesterday.
She said the ministry would look after the welfare of those involved in the commodities sector, such as smallholders, plantation workers and manufacturers.
Newly-appointed Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin said she was committed to review the issue of logging.
“We will look into logging and its enforcement.
“I will come up with new policies after looking into the matter,” she said at the swearing-in ceremony of cabinet ministers at Istana Negara here yesterday.
In Seremban, Eddin Syazlee Shith, the newly-appointed deputy minister of communications and Multimedia, said he would give preference to the people’s agenda.
The Kuala Pilah member of parliament said he would work with minister Gobind Singh Deo in discharging his duties.
“The minister and I will look at the internal and external aspects of the ministry to ensure improvement in the implementation of the ministry’s vision and mission, including matters concerning the staff.
“Cooperation is also most welcome from the media fraternity, especially in providing constructive views, reports and suggestions for us to work together.”
