UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will resume giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at its headquarters here today.

Between his arrival at 9.50am and when he left the building at 6.30pm yesterday, Zahid wrapped up giving his statement in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

He said he would return to give his statement in relation to investigations into purported abuse of funds belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi Sdn Bhd.

He said he had explained in detail his meeting with a member of the Saudi royal family in 2015.

In 2015, he was reported to have said that he had met a member of the Saudi royal family and had claimed that the Saudi ruler had given a RM2.6 billion donation to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“I wish to congratulate them (MACC) for being professional and in giving me the opportunity to explain (on his alleged meeting with the member of the Saudi royal family),” he said.

Zahid, who was deputy prime minister at the time, said his explanation on the issue to MACC was timely as the issue involved public perception of the matter.

However, when asked who else he had met while meeting the Saudi royal, he said he did not need to answer that question as he was only answerable to MACC.

It was previously reported that Zahid was summoned to the MACC headquarters to explain himself on two issues.

One involved the RM2.6 billion banked into the personal account of Najib, who was the then Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman.

The other issue is the alleged misuse of RM800,000 in funds of a foundation headed by Zahid.
