‘Show proof of money politics in Umno election’

-

SEREMBAN: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has urged those who claim that money politics influenced the party election to show proof.

Mohamad said allegations must be backed by evidence before action could be taken.

“Don’t just make an allegation. Show us the proof so that we can take action.

“We are looking forward to the new Umno. We don’t want this kind of practice to occur and spread in the party,” he said after the Negri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly special session here yesterday.

Defeated Umno presidential candidate Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, better known as Ku Li, had claimed that he heard rumours of money politics influencing the party polls, which he said should be eradicated as it could destroy the party.

Ku Li, 81, lost to former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On Ku Li’s claim, Mohamad said he was not aware of the issue, but assured that action would be taken if there was proof.

On dissatisfaction from many quarters following the election of Zahid as president, Mohamad said everyone was entitled to his own opinion.

“But as the deputy president, I will perform my duty, and continue to offer advice and views to the president for the benefit of the people and party.”

Mohamad urged party members to put aside their differences and move forward to revive and strengthen Umno.
