Perak govt to help GLC that can’t pay staff

-

IPOH: The state government will seek a solution to the issue of a government-linked company’s (GLC) inability to pay the salaries of its employees this month.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the GLC, which has more than 100 employees, was looking for a way to pay its employees’ salaries.

“We will find a way to pay the salaries, but the state government will review some of the existing agreements as we have found some leakages in the payment issue.

“Negotiations will also be made to bring profit to the company. This will help reduce the company’s burden,” he said.

Faizal said this after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with some orphans, organised by the Ipoh Royal Club here yesterday .

Fifty orphans from the Al Barakah Education Centre in Manjoi here also received duit raya from Faizal.

Faisal said the salary issue should not have happened as it involved many quarters.

He added that the problem could not be resolved by terminating the employment of those in question.

“Now that we (the state government) want to reduce the cost of the company, we will have to terminate many jobs, but that would affect the livelihood of the families concerned.

“All this while, they were paying salaries using the bank’s overdraft facility and this has further burdened the current administration’s problems,” he said.
