Over RM1m in sponsorship for football competition
KLANG: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah received more than RM1 million in sponsorship for the 17th edition of The Sultan of Selangor Cup at Istana Alam Shah here yesterday.
The sponsorship included money from the Selangor government and Selangor governmentlinked companies.
Selangor State Development Corporation remained the main sponsor, contributing RM300,000.
Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd and Selangor Treasury contributed RM100,000 each.
KDEB Waste Management gave the unique contribution of RM88,888.88.
Worldwide Holdings Bhd and Menteri Besar Incorporated gave RM50,000 each.
Kingsley Seeds Foundation contributed RM100,000, while eight private companies provided RM50,000 each.
They are Syarikat Splash Bhd, Taliworks Corporation Bhd, Eco World Development Group Bhd, SP Setia Group, Everspring Land Sdn Bhd, Kumpulan Nirwana Bhd, Aiman Platinum Sdn Bhd and Ampang Heights Holdings Sdn Bhd.
This year, one spectator stands to win a Honda City, sponsored by Syarikat Tanjung Balai, from a lucky draw based on ticket sales. Each ticket is priced at just RM10.
Sultan of Selangor Cup 2018 organising committee chairman Tan Sri Abd Karim Munisar said apart from the two main matches, there would also be a Selangor-Singapore Schools Challenge Trophy match.
“The Sultan of Selangor Cup will also have performances by schoolchildren and local artistes, and a fireworks display. The first of the three matches will begin at 5.30pm,” he said.
Present at the event were Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Menteri Besar Amiruddin Shari, State Secretary Datuk Amin Ahmad Ahya and Media Prima Bhd group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid.
The football contest, which began in 2001, will take place at Shah Alam Stadium on Aug 25.
Media Prima’s TV3 is the official electronic media for the event, while Berita Harian is the official Bahasa Melayu paper.
The cup was founded by Sultan Sharafuddin to rekindle the famous but friendly rivalry between Selangor and Singapore after the latter pulled out of the Malaysian league in the 1990s.
The two teams were the most successful teams in the Malaya/Malaysia Cup history, often meeting in the finals.
This year’s Selangor selection will see players from the state’s two most successful teams, Selangor FA and PKNS FC taking to the field.
