‘He was well treated by Indonesian authorities’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos was well treated by Indonesian authorities while in detention in Jakarta.

His lawyer, Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin, said Indonesian police and Immigration Department officers had finished their investigations. He said Indonesian lawyer Adherie Zulfikri had been appointed by Jamal to represent his interests there, as the Indonesian legal system was different from Malaysia’s.

“After receiving news that Jamal was arrested on July 2, I flew to Jakarta on July 3. It was then that I contacted Adherie to take on the case there,” he said.

Imran said upon arrival in Jakarta, he went to the Metro Jaya district police headquarters, where Jamal was being held, and with help from Adherie, he met his client.

“He was in good health, though he looked a little tired. He was well looked after by the Metro Jaya police.

“I was also told that police had provided him with everything that he needed, including medicine.

“After his statement was recorded at the police headquarters, about 9.15pm local time (10.15pm Malaysian time), he was taken to the Indonesian Immigration office for processing and documentation. “On July 4, his statement was recorded by Immigration Department officers. He was then taken back to the Metro Jaya police headquarters,” he said.

Jamal was brought back to Malaysia by Malaysian police on board Malaysia Airlines Flight MH710 from Jakarta yesterday, before being taken to the Ampang magistrate’s court to be charged with resisting lawful apprehension.

“Jamal’s family and I would like to thank the Indonesian police and Immigration officers, the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta and Adherie for their help,” said Imran.
