Baru Bian: All infrastructure projects approved by previous govt will be reviewed
The Works Minister says this is to ensure that only those which are really important for the people are given priority.
NEWLY-MINTED Works Minister Baru Bian will review all projects approved by the previous Barisan Nasional administration to ensure that priority be put only on people-centric projects.
He said the ministry would focus on infrastructure projects, such as hospitals, schools and clean water, especially for Sabah and Sarawak.
“I have learnt that some projects have been delayed and categorised as failed and critical. They will be given attention.
“As such, we will review all projects and focus on those that can improve people’s livelihood,” he said after launching a flyover project linking Batu Maung to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here.
Present was state Public Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
He said approved and awarded projects must be honoured.
“If there are problems, we will re-examine them.”
On his meeting with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow yesterday, Bian said he was briefed on the delay in Penang Hospital and Seberang Jaya Hospital upgrading projects, as well as the collapsed hillslopes in the state.
“I will focus on the delayed projects.”
On whether he was briefed by Chow on the proposed undersea tunnel and light rail transit projects, as well as the toll abolishment for the first Penang Bridge, he said none of these were raised at the meeting.
