Mat Sabu flies high in Sukhoi jet fighter
KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu yesterday soared high in a Sukhoi Su30MKM jet fighter.
He shared his experience on his Facebook page: “Penerbangan pesawat pejuang TUDM bersama dengan juruterbang pesawat Sukhoi Su30-MKM (M52-14), Lt Col Jasmi. Satu pengalaman baru hari ini.” (Flying with pilot Lieutenant-Colonel Jasmi in RMAF fighter aircraft Sukhoi Su30-MKM (M52-14). A new experience today.)
According to the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s Facebook page, the trip was made during an official visit to the Gong Kedak airbase in Kelantan.
He was accompanied by Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin and RMAF deputy chief Lieutenant-General Datuk Seri Ackbal Abdul Samad.
Mohamad was ushered by airbase commander Brigadier-General Datuk Suhaimi Hussain.
His Facebook post garnered comments from Netizens, including calls for the government to improve the country’s air assets.
Facebook user Zam Hassan said: “Hope that the defence minister will strengthen our air defence. Focus should be given to the acquisition of maritime patrol aircraft.”
Another Facebook user, Faizal Sahpri, said: “Hope the Defence Ministry will add more fighter jets and weapons. Look at Sweden and Switzerland. Although they are neutral, they are wellequipped. Prevention is better than cure.”
