4 KILLED IN TAWAU CRASH

Woman suspected to be intoxicate­d barrels into them at parking area

WHAT was supposed to be a night of fun celebratin­g a friend’s birthday ended in tragedy for teenager Dicson Lim Kien Shing, when he was among four people killed in an accident suspected to be caused by drink-driving yesterday.

The Form Four student of SMK Jambatan Putih Tawau had celebrated his friend’s birthday elsewhere before going to a parking lot in Jalan Chong Thien Vun here to hang out with other friends.

Dicson, 16, the youngest of three siblings, died when a woman, suspected to be intoxicate­d, drove her vehicle and hit a group of people and three parked cars at 1.15am.

Dicson’s cousin, Vu Chung Nam, 20, said the teenager had asked him to join him for the birthday celebratio­n, but Vu had to attend another function.

“We were shocked to find out that he died. He was a good person, friendly and well-liked by his friends,” Vu said.

At Tawau hospital, Dicson’s brother, Dearen, 20, said he rushed to the scene of the accident and was shocked to see his brother’s body covered in blood.

The three others who died were Clawence Wong Vun Kit, 21, Chong Wei Chan, 21, and Hiew Nyuk Wei, 30.

Another victim, Chin Guan Xiong, 21, suffered a broken leg.

Wong’s brother, Vun Peng, 24, said: “Witnesses said the driver was speeding before losing control of her vehicle.

“I hope she gets the punishment she deserves so that it will serve as a lesson to others not to drink and drive.” he said.
