Amirul makes amends as expected

-

Amirul Haffirudin’s title aspirations moved a step closer after clinching his second win in as many races this season at the Cub Prix AAM Malaysia Petronas Championships in Serdang yesterday.

The Motul Zeneos Yamaha YY Pang Racing rider, who started from pole, lived up to the expectations placed on him after comfortably winning the CP115 class race at the MAEPS circuit.

Amirul, whose teammate Fareez Afeez came in second, said he was relieved to have made up for crashing out of the race last year.

“Obviously, I am delighted to win here and clinch the title for the team, especially after what happened last season,” said Amirul.

“I took pole in the shootout (qualifying) while Fareez was fourth, so we were able to plan a strategy for the race and it worked out just as we wanted.

“This is my sixth year in this category and my goal this season is to win it for the first time. The highest I managed before was second overall in 2015.

“It is a matter of maintaining my form and remaining mentally focused as there is still a long way to go this season.”

The Terengganu-born had taken an equally impressive win at the season opening round in Tangkak in April.

Amirul, who finished fourth overall last season, added that he will be focusing on improving his physical strength and stamina ahead of the third round in Jasin, two weeks from now
