‘Umno should let Pas take on PKR’

-

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Pas has expressed hope to fight PKR head on in the Sungai Kandis by-election.

Its election director, Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir, said UmnoBarisan Nasional should sit out the by-election and let a straight fight take place.

He said Umno was facing controversies and the situation was not ideal for the party to contest the seat.

“Umno is facing many problems, from the freezing of its bank accounts in Selangor to other controversies.

“So, I feel it is better that the party solves its problems first. I feel it would be best for Pas to face PKR straight on.”

He said a straight fight between Pas and PKR would provide the best opportunity for the party to wrest the seat from Pakatan Harapan.

“The votes will be split if BN joins in the fight,” he said, adding that the Sungai Kandis constituency was made up of 73 per cent Malay voters and Selangor Pas had 20 branches there.

On the Pas candidate, he said the party had yet to decide who would contest.

Recently, Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan voiced similar sentiments that it would be pointless for the party to field a candidate if there was a three-cornered fight for the seat.

He said such a scenario would see a repeat of the general election where the votes were split.
